In France, throughout Europe, as well as the rest of the world, Madame Simone Veil is acknowledged as one of the world's most courageous, powerful and influential people. She is the only woman to appear in surveys as a potential Prime Minister in France. She is the most popular public individual in France. She was the first President of the European Parliament; since 1984, she has been the Deputy President. She has served as President of the Judicial Commission for this powerful group. She has held in the French government for many years. Her political, legislative and social power is real and honored. She has received honors from the governments and organizations of France, the Ivory Coast, Spain, Morocco, Germany, Greece, Venezuela, Italy, Belgium, Israel and the United States. Her committed concern with women's rights, adopted children, older adults and immigration is admired and praised everywhere. When Simon Veil was only 17 years old, she and her family were prisoners of the Nazi's at Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen. She, her mother and two sisters suffered unimaginable atrocities.
