ASHTORETH - Hebrew
(Mythic)
Semitic - Astarte
Assyrian - Ishtar
Goddess of Fertility and Reproduction. Originally worshiped from 1150 to 586 BC, in temples later given to Yahweh. For a time they were worshiped side by side.
She was venerated in the royal household of Solomon and was part of temple worship during the time of Jezebel -- who was maligned by Levite prophets of the Bible.
She was denounced as the Mother Goddess and all kinds of terrible practices were attributed to her. A superb example of the Gods of the old religions become the devils of the new.
