Reba Brophy-King Society Editor for San Diego Magazine Women's International Center's First Annual Courage in Action Award Reba Brophy-King is well known in the San Diego area as Society Editor and writer for San Diego Magazine. Each month she reaches thousands of people. She is preparing to reach thousands more with the founding of the San Diego Chapter of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. In May 1999, Reba was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and currently a chemotherapy patient. She has made it her mission to lecture before various women's groups about recognizing symptoms, dealing with doctors and HMO's, and being proactive in her own recovery. Her mission has become her passion. Expect to hear much more from Reba as she alerts and encourages women to take care and to stay well. Reba has been active in the community chairing, working on committees and volunteering for many different non-profit organizations such as the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Leukemia Society, Rotary International (all of which have been honored by Women's International Center,) Episcopal Community Services and Charter 100. With the founding of the San Diego Chapter of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, Reba writes, "If I can save one woman the agony of cancer, I will feel very happy and gratified."
